About Attorney Olivia Cataldo

Facing a criminal charge means navigating one of the most stressful, high-stakes situations you can find yourself in—often without any prior experience with the court system, and with very little time to make major decisions regarding your future.
Attorney Olivia Cataldo founded O Cataldo Law in New Bedford, MA, to represent people in exactly this position. She handles each case personally, not through associates or case managers, because she believes that you deserve the full attention of the attorney you choose to represent you.
When you work with Attorney Cataldo, she will:
- Explain what’s happening at every stage
- Prepare you for what’s coming next in the case process
- Give you a clear, honest picture of your options throughout proceedings
“You’ll leave your consultation with me knowing two things. First, how the charges you’re facing can impact your future, and second, how I’ll fight to protect that future as your criminal defense attorney.”
A Criminal Defense Attorney Who Knows Exactly How Commonwealth Prosecutors Build Their Cases
Before opening O Cataldo Law in 2022, Attorney Cataldo spent nearly five years as an Assistant District Attorney with the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. Her degree in psychology from Boston University, earned before her J.D. from UMass Law-Dartmouth in 2016, shaped how she approached that work from the beginning.
That background shapes how she reads the human dynamics in your case, and how she builds a defense strategy that accounts for the specific details relevant to your charges.
Her prosecutorial career took her through New Bedford District Court, where she worked as a line prosecutor, and then to Fall River District Court and back to New Bedford, where she served as the dedicated domestic violence prosecutor.
In that role, she didn’t just handle cases, but also trained other Assistant District Attorneys on domestic violence prosecution and the dynamics that make these cases uniquely complex.
In February 2020, she was selected to travel to San Diego for a week-long national training on strangulation and suffocation cases— the same specialized body of knowledge that informs how law enforcement and prosecutors approach the most serious charges in that category.
That training made her an even more effective criminal defense attorney. It means she knows exactly what the Commonwealth is looking for in those cases, how they build the narrative, and therefore, how to craft an effective defense strategy for your case.
When she reviews the evidence in your case, she’s reading it the way the prosecutor will… and then she’s looking for every place where the evidence is weak or the alleged order of events doesn’t add up.
What to Expect When You Work with Attorney Olivia Cataldo
As your New Bedford criminal defense attorney, Attorney Cataldo gives you her full attention. She keeps her caseload intentionally small so she can provide the preparation, communication, and strategic focus your case requires—rather than handing your case off to an associate.
Throughout your case, she explains what’s happening and why, prepares you for each stage before it arrives, and gives you a clear, honest read on your options at every decision point.
Your initial consultation is free, confidential, and focused on helping you understand your best path forward.
Attorney Cataldo is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and represents clients at New Bedford District Court, Bristol County Superior Court, and courts throughout the Commonwealth.
